Objective To discuss the correlation of MS and carotid artery arteriosclerosis clot forming. Methods 368 hospitalized patients were divided into three groups, MS-group, high risk MS-group and non MS-group. All patients were examined with color ultrasound to diagnose the degree of carotid artery arteriosclerosis, then to analyze the data. Results The rate of carotid artery arteriosclerosis clot forming in three groups was 54.75%,33.21% and 12.04% respectively. The rate of middle and heavy stenosis of carotid artery in three groups was 48.65% ,40.54% and 10.81% respectively. The rate of carotid artery block in three groups was 70.59%, 29.41% and zero respectively. The degree of carotid artery arteriosclerosis was significantly higher in MS-group and high risk MS-group as compared with those in non MS-group(P 〈0.05). There was a correlation between the distribution of MS occurrence, the number of qualified diagnostic standards and the degree carotid artery arteriosclerosis. Conclusion MS and high risk MS were subjects of high occurrence of carotid artery arteriosclerosis clot forming. The test of carotid artery ultrasound can be used as a first grade measure to prevent cerebral vascular disease.
