Subaltern study is always the major concern of the post-colonial study. In J. M. Coetzee' s Disgrace, silence is never a characteristic of the female subaltern, whereas it is phenomenally obvious that they have their own discourse and their own voice. In the process of the constant deconstruction as well as the marginalization of the male subject, the female subjectivity has been tactically represented. Moreover, this kind of representation is never imagined or constructed through the male subjective discourse. Actually it has a very close relationship with the female serf-experience. This paper thus clarifies the complicated relationship between the post-colonial discourse and the subaltern, represented in Disgrace, and attempts to interpret this text from the perspective of the subaltern, and further reveals how Coetzee, as an "organic intellectual", represents the subjectivity of the subaltern and their own voice in the post-colonial discourse.
