The height of a building is one of the representations of the relationships between man and space in the course of steady urban development as well as an important carrier of each city in reflecting its own features and styles. Proper control and guidance on the building height is an important means to create the urban features and styles as well as the overall sight. In the urban historical preservation areas in European countries such as Britain, France and Germany, overall control is made on the height of buildings for landscape and aesthetic considerations. Different methods for control of building height are used for different protected buildings and landscapes at different levels of planning so as to preserve the integer of the urban development in terms of building mass.
