摘　　要：This paper, considering current practice and development in EFL teacher education in China, discusses the basic components of the quality of EFL teachers. According to Peter Strevens （1989）, the basic components of the quality of second or foreign language teachers should involve theory component, information component and skill component. Based on a detailed discussion of the components of the quality of EFL teachers, the paper also presents the procedures for equipping the EFL teachers with the characteristics of an ＂ideal＂ EFL teacher.
