An investigation into the English Version of Web Pages of Universities in China

摘　　要：Many universities in China have adopted bilingual web pages, which open a window to the outside world, through which more people abroad can get to know the Chinese universities on the Internet. A survey of the English Overview of web pages of Chinese universities among native-speakers shows that the translation fails to convey the intended message mainly due to Chinglish. The problem falls into 3 categories, i.e. inappropriate information handling, problematic wording, and awkward sentence structure. The main cause of Chinglish is discussed and solutions are also suggested.
