摘　　要：American famous author Nathaniel Hawthorne was influenced deeply by Puritanism, Transcendentalism and Mysticism. His works are quite ambiguous. The Scarlet Letter reflects his style and artistic characteristics. This passage is intended to approach the symbols of the letter A in The Scarlet Letter from different angles. The letter A, having many connotations, is worked out elaborately. It is a steak of light in the darkness and arouses people to create a new happy life in the future.
