On the Nationalized Characteristics of English and Chinese Surnames

摘　　要：The ancient Chinese were the first to adopt surnames, the name of one＇s family system, to honor their forebears. As a language widely used in the world, English has various categories of surnames. The etymological and sociolinguistic research into the occurrence, development and nationalized characteristics of English and Chinese surnmnes demonstrates that they both have many features in common, which result from human nature and common-sense knowledge, In addition, both English and Chinese surnames have their own unique nationalized characteristics, which stem mainly from their different history, ideology, cultures, religions and social customs.
