摘 要:This research paper attempts to conduct a corpus-based comparative analysis of conversational routines on spoken British and Singapore English. It investigates the linguistic realizations, frequencies, distribution and distributive features of the conversational routines of the speech act, thanking, in the five text types of the two parallel corpora of the ICE project, ICE-SIN and ICE-GB. Corpus analysis tools, ICECUP and WordSrnith, are used in the search and analysis of conversational routines in the two corpora. The theoretical framework for the analysis of conversational routines is mainly provided by the speech act theory and Gricean pragmatics. It is expected that the findings can contribute to the better understanding of the two national varieties of English and the two English-speaking communities.
