摘　　要：长期以来,研究者均认可吴汝纶当年应允出任了京师大学堂总教习一职。据笔者考证:吴汝纶并未应允就聘;吴汝纶并非以总教习身份赴日本考察学制;吴汝纶未应允就聘的原因是多方面的,既有其个人、家庭的特因,更有国家教育体制的共因。For a long time,researchers have been generally holding that WU Ru-lun took the teaching post as president at invitation at the Imperial college.According to my findings,WURu-lun did not take that post at invitation,he went to Japan to learn its educational system not as president.The reasons why he did not take that post are of his prirvate causes and the more important causes of China＇s educational system.
