摘　　要：语言是人类最重要的交际工具。人们为了表达新概念、新事物,就需要以各种方式创造大量词汇。本文通过丰富的新词实例阐述了英语新词产生和扩大的四种主要方式,即利用构词法、借用外来语、赋予旧词新义、创造全新单词。这也是英语词汇发展的趋势。Language is the most important communicative means of human beings. People need to create a lot of new words by various approaches in order to express new comcepts anti new things. The paper states the four approaches of creating and expanding English new words through many exapples. They are word formation, borrowed words from other languages, new meaning of old words and producing new words. Using these approaches is the tendency of creating English new words.
