Objective To investigate the risk factors of fatigue- induced tibial esteotitis in recruits, and to provide the scientific information for recruitment and working out corresponding preventive measures. Methods A case - control study was carried out among a total of 519 male recruits from a unit of Chinese People's Armed Forces in 2003 through one year's follow- up. 71 cases of tibial osteotitis were found by physical examination and physical fitness evaluation. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed for all factors. Results The accumulative incidence of tibial osteotitis in the recruits was 13.6 person times/100 (person·year). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed significantly positive association of fatigue-induced tibial osteotitis with history of smoking, history of lower limb injury, nmning form, and negative association with nutritional condition, and co - ordination of body. Conclusions Good physique quality and body co - ordination without history of lower limb injury should be considered during recmitselection, and bad living habit and behavior should be changed during military training;all these would decrease the incidence of fatigue- induced tibial esteotitis.
