Objective: To investigate the best prescribed proportion of zhizhu decoction (ZD)for FD and the mechanism. Methods : The rat model of electrogastric dysrhythmias was used. To observe the changes on the combined use of immature bitter orange and bighead actraetylodes on gastrointestinal motivation and gastrointestinal hormone in experimental rats. Changes in motilin (MTL) ,vasoactive intestional peptide (VIP)contents in peripheral blood were determined by radioimmunoassay. Results : Different dose of ZD could promote the gastrointestinal motivation significantly ( P 〈 0.01 ). Compared with that of the normal control group, the plasma MTL of FD rats was decreased significantly and the VIP level elevated significantly ( P 〈0.01) . Compared with that of the model group, the plasma MTL of ZD 1:1 and motilium groups were significantly higher ( P 〈 0.01 ) and the VIP level signifieandy lower ( P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion: The decrease of MTL and the increase of VIP are related to FD. The best prescribed proportion of ZD was 1 : 1 for treating FD. The therapeutic mechanism of ZD 1 : 1 might be involved in the modulation of gastroinfestinal motility via regulating the levels of MTL and VIP.
