This paper is a study of Leslie Marmon Silko, the youngest writer to be included in The Norton Anthology of Women's Literature. The study begins by examining briefly Silko's works and various critical responses to her writing, emphasizing her unique identity as a Native American woman writer. The second part deals with “Yellow Woman,” one of her most acclaimed short stories. By adopting an ecofeminist approach, this paper intends to show and evaluate the importance of nature in Silko's works and the role it plays in women's search for identity in the Indian culture. It aims to argue that Native American writers like Silko should not simply be regarded as regional writers. Their contribution to nature writing and eventually to American literature should be reevaluated.
