What is the difference between listening to an orchestra performing live and putting on a recording? The Guangzhou Ballet Troupe would know better than the audience. Sound technology nowadays has improved so tremendously that playing a recording to accompany dance can be very effective do we , then ,still need to spend so much money going to the theatre? Even attending a dance performance seens unnecessary. Can we not listen to a worldclass orchestra simply by playing a CD?Or see a famous performing group by watching a DVD? At the beginning of broadcasting history, music and sports provided key content for programs. In 1924, soon after the birth of radio, annual sales of phonograph records in the US dropped sharply by 50%. Radio was able to provide a richer variety of programs, hence its popularity. During that time, American hotels generally entertained their guests with singers and bands performing in the dining halls. These performances were broadcast live on radio, hence "live music". Recorded music, on the other hand, was called "canned music." Although these singers and bands could not be compared with the quality of recordings, such "live" ambience was what the eople looked for and most enjoyed.
