摘 要:This study aims to examine the relationship between college-level ESL students' speaking and writing. 10 college-level ESL students currently studying in an American university are drawn from a total number of 40 students and participate in the study. The objective measures of syntactic maturity are computed and analyzed in both spoken and written samples of these students. The findings of this study overall indicate a positive relationship between college-level ESL students' speaking and writing, which specifically shows that students with a high proficiency write and speak better than those of a low proficiency. With regards to the objective measures analyzed in this study, the data of this study also reveal that high-rated students produce more words, write more T-units, make fewer errors and incorporate more subordinate clauses than low-rated students in both spoken and written samples.
