It bears on the inner bottom a 22- character inscription, which records that Yao Gong made the object for his wife surnamed Yao(姚) in the year of some Western Zhou king conducting the 28^th zhouji 周祭(sacrificial ceremonies held in rotation ), when the Earl of the Tang State was appointed as Marquis of the Jin (former Tang) State by the king. The inscription conforms to the literal record saying that Xie Fu, Tang Shu Yu' s son, was the first Jin Marquis and that the Tang Earl mentioned in the above inscription must have been Xie Fu enfeoffed in the Jin (former Tang) as Marquis. This evidences the removal of the capital of the Tang State to the primary town of the later - renamed Jin State. Moreover, the king in question must have been Chengwang or Kangwang. Either of the identification results will affect the reconstruction of both the chronology of the Western Zhou kings' reigns and the bronze inscription calendar. The vessel and its inscription, therefore, have important academic value.
