Objective To examine the influence of drinking of warm water on the result of axillary temperature measurement and how long the influence would last. Methods After healthy adult participants (n=71) had drunk warm water of 50℃ and 20 participants who were selected at random from the 71 had drunk warm water of 40℃, the axillary temperature was taken before water drinking and 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 minutes after water drinking. Results There was a significant increase in the axillary temperature measured 0, 10, 20, 30, 40 minutes after water drinking as compared with the axillary temperature before water drinking in all participants (P〈0.05 for all). Fifty minutes after drinking, the axillary temperature dropped and got close to previous result(P〉0.05 for both). There were no statistically significant differences in axillary temperature at the same time points between 50℃ group and 40℃ group (P〉0.05 for all). Conclusion It is advisable to take the axillary temperature 50 minutes after drinking of warm water.
