摘　　要：本文回顾了科学大洋钻探40多年的发展历程,综述了大洋钻探计划的重要科学成就,展示了新世纪IODP大洋钻探将使用多个钻探平台,采用新的以地质作用为导向的研究方法,着重研究三个大的科学课题:深部生物圈与洋底下的海洋;环境变化,过程和结果;固体地球循环和地球动力学。地球正在“变小”,人类要改善与她的关系。IODP将为我们提供可能的信息。This paper reviews the history of the scientific ocean drilling programs over the past 40 years and reports selected important scientific achievements obtained by the programs. Using the new multiple-platform approach to scientific ocean drilling and a new process-oriented approach to research, the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program （IODP） will focus on three broad scientific themes： The deep biosphere and the subseafloor ocean; Environmental change, processes and effects; Solid earth cycles and geodynamics. As Earth grows smaller, mankind＇s relationship with it must improve. IODP will help to provide the information that can make that possible.
