摘　　要：客家历史文化的认识途径与研究方法很大程度上只能凭借历史文献。“文献”的定义涵盖众说纷纭,今已有国家标准局批准公布的明文规定。历史文献有广义与狭义之别,史料价值需要甄别。实证科学必须从具体的历史事实、从史料出发;研究能力就是史料真伪的鉴别能力、史料价值的判断能力、从史料中发现历史联系的能力和在研究成果表述中使用史料的能力等诸种能力的综合。客家研究的历史文献考察与应用应遵循此原则。The meanings of understanding and studying Hakka culture largely depends on historical docu- ments. There are so many different definitions for＂ document＂ that the State Standard Bureau has made clear regulations. Historical documents have both broad and narrow senses and their value should be discriminated. Authentic science must derive from historical facts and data. Research ability is a combination of abilities：the ability to examine the truth and value of historical data,the ability to discover historical relations and the ability to use historical data in the presentations of research achivemert. The inspection amd application of Hakka studies should follow the principle.
