摘　　要：大都会歌剧院上月终于公布，搁置2008奥运年首次到中国巡演的计划。我们借此机会来客观地了解一下这个情况。尽管谭盾的《秦始皇》在首演期间饱受批评，作品的未来路途遥遥；尽管中国方面跟大都会的谈判在财政问题上得不到共识，以上这些都不代表国际歌剧合作模式和创新歌剧的冀望完全熄灭。Now that the Metropolitan Opera has made a public statement giving up all hopes of making its first trip to China during the 2008 Olympic Year, we need to pause for a little perspective. Just because Tan Dun＇s near-universally panned opera The First Emperor is not yet ready for prime time - and just because no one in China could offer the Met a credible financial package to cross the Pacific - does not mean that all hopes of forging new operatic models of international cooperation have died out.
