Objective To study effects of urea and creatinine clearing with intestinal bacteria in renal failure. Methods The renal subtotal ablation model was established. Groups included normal group, untreated and treated with Sheng SuaiKang group (1 g · kg^-1·d^-1 for 8 weeks). The bacteria of the feces were cuhured and isolated. The urea and creatinine of the blood and feces were determined. The relationship between the concentration of urea and creatinine and the quantity of the intestinal bacteria was analyzed. Results The quantity of the intestinal bacteria in the untreated group was significant increased compared with that in normal group, including Escherichia coli, Saprophytic staphylococcus, Strptococcus foetidus and Diphtheroid bacillus ( P 〈 0. 05 ). In the treated group, the bacteria quantity and the concentration of urea and creatinine were significant decreased, but increased in the feces, h had positive relationship between the quantity of intestinal bacteria and Bun or Scr, but no relation with urea and creatinine in the feces. Conclusion The quantity of intestinal bacteria is significant increased in the renal failure, which do not depend on quantity of intestinal bacteria to clear Un and Cr from intestine.
