摘　　要：介绍了XFree86(4.4.0),以及它的源码结构,源码编译和安装。分析了XFree86在NC(网络计算机)客户端的最小化裁减和如何起动X。比较选择了在服务器安装的一种窗口管理器,特别讨论了如何通过SSH的端口转发技术来实现一种安全的NC方案。This paper introduces the XFree86（4.4.0）, and the structure of its source, the building and installing of the source distribution. Then it analyses the reducing of the XFree86 on the client of NC and how to start X. The paper also compares the window managers and chooses one for the server of NC. Especially it describes a method to implement a kind of secure NC with the uses of the port forwarding of SSH.
