摘　　要：原文作于1988年。作者周国平是一位具有人文精神和哲学理性的学者。他用散文的笔调写他的哲学思考,以哲学思考贯穿他的文学写作。本文文笔简练,耐人寻味,给译者增加了理解和传译的困难。我们现将参赛译文里出现的一些问题归纳整理,评析如下:＂A virtuous man is concerned with righteousness while a mean man, with gain,＂ Confucius says. The ＂righteousness＂ and ＂gain＂ have long been a central theme in the Chinese philosophy of life. But, what if I am neither virtuous nor mean？
