摘　　要：托马斯·哈代的代表作——"性格与环境小说"注重对自然环境的描写,表达了作者对自然的关注和独特理解。本文试图通过分析《德伯家的苔丝》来探讨哈代小说中所体现的自然观和在此影响下人们对待命运的态度。Thomas Hardy made special effort on the depiction of the natural environment in his masterpieces-＂Novels of Character and Environment＂, which expresses his special attention to and understanding of the nature. This paper takes Tess of the D＇Urbervilles as an example and thus tries to discuss Hardy＇s view on nature and man＇s attitude toward fate as it appears in his novels.
