摘　　要：福建省晋江市陈埭镇。在古老的乌桥下，流淌着无数传说的乌河已经干涸。乌桥两旁，一边是密密麻麻的鞋材商店，另一边是交错的三四层楼的制鞋工厂。小楼中工人们在生产线上忙碌着，日复一日，这是福建晋江陈埭镇——中国鞋都最平常不过的景象。在桥边并不宽敞的马路上，这个小镇上的各色人等摩肩接踵，昂贵的宝马奔驰路虎、体积庞大的集装箱货车与各式“摩的”川流不息。There are 3,000-plus shoe production enterprises and equipment companies in Chendai town,Fu Jian province,which owns the land of 38.8 square kilometers.This small county has contributed 650 million pairs of shoes for the world.Famous shoe brands like Anta,361°, Xidelang,Aile,Deerway,Jordan,Jinlaike are all located here and thus Chendai is named as'Shoe Captial in China'. However,the fast developement of shoe industry has resulted in much trouble.Environmental pollution is a good case in point.Local drinking water has been contaminated because of the shoe production over the years.The local water quality is below the normal standard. Even worse,there is no running water in some places. The recruitment costs have soared high because of labor shortage and more severe competition.One boss complained to China Entrepreneur that the cost per head has increased from RMB 10,000 in 2000 to RMB 20,000 per year.In addition,the appreciation of RMB currency made it more difficult for some shoe companies in Chendai to keep their advantages in the competition. Several brands have retreated from Chendai.Most of them have transferred to other nearby counties in order to make use of the accessory facilities in Chendai.The legend and confusion of Chendai might be copied by the surrounding area.
