Objective To explore the expression of transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) in blood, urine and tissues of kidney of the patients with nephrotic syndrome and the role on its onset. Methods Histopathological and immunohistochemical methods and image analysis system were used to evaluate the expression and change of TGF-β1 in the tissues of kidney. The level of TGF-β1 of the blood and urine were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results The expression of TGF-β1 in blood and urine was much higher in the patients with nephrotic syndrome than the normal control(P〈0. 001). TGF-β1 did not express in the glomcrulus of normal control group, however, expressed more intensive yellow brown particles in the glomcrulus and nephric tubule of the patients with nephrotic syndrome, and the expression of TGF-β1 of the patients with nephrotic syndrome was significantly increased compared with the normal control group(P〈0. 001). Conclusion The expression of TGF-β1 in blood, urine and tissues of kidney of the patients with nephrotic syndrome is significantly increased, and may play an important role in the process of renal fibrous degeneration.
