Objective: To study regional brain activation in the health volunteers and three age groups fi'om abstract pictures memory. Methods: Single shot GRE-EPI imaging was performed individually in 20 health volunteers from three age groups during memory retrieval stimulation of abstract pictures, fMRI images were mixed and analysed with T1W anatomic images through software SPM. Brain activation regions were also analyzed. Results: Youth group is highest at the correct rate, children group is secondary, and aged group is lowest. Youth group has strong activity in medial temporal lobe (MTL) for retrieval stimulation, aged class has thinner activation in same areas but the range is more wider. Children group has neither strong activity nor wide activity areas. Conclusions: Functions of brain memory are changing with age. For the youth group, MTL and especially hippocampus which is dominating areas on memory-taking show strongest function; for the aged group, accompanied with weakening of memorial ability, activity of the structure correlated with memory descending, but cortex and other structure functions obviously increase. Children groups is in the phase of upgrowth.
