摘  要:2007年度诺贝尔化学奖授予了德国科学家格哈德.埃特尔,以表彰他在固体表面化学过程研究中的贡献.埃特尔的研究为现代表面化学奠定了理论基础,他建立的表面化学的研究方法,向人们展示了不同化学反应在固体表面的精细结构.他的研究方法不仅用于学术研究,也被用于产品的研发和生产,例如从空气中固氮的新技术,铂催化剂上一氧化碳的氧化反应,IT芯片的生产等,这些技术对于化肥工业、IT产业、环保、生态都有巨大的经济效益和社会效益.埃特尔不是因为某一个具体发现获奖,而是因为对过程机理研究的贡献获奖,这在诺贝尔化学奖历史上是不多见的.The Royal Swedish Academy Sciences announced that the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2007 is awarded to Gerhard Ertl, a scientist of Germany, for the contributions in"… his studies of chemical processes on solid surfaces". Gerhard Ertl has founded for groundbreaking studies in surfacee chemistry by showing how reliable results can be attained in this difficult area of research. His insights have provided the scientific basis of modern surface chemistry: his methodology is used in both academic re- search and the industrial development of chemical processes. The approach developed by Ertl is based not least on his studies of the Haber-Bosch process, in which nitrogen is extracted from the air for inclusion in artificial fertilizers. Ertl has also studied the oxidation of carbon monoxide on platinum, a reaction that takes place in the catalyst of cars to clean exhaust emissions.
