Though having got their lawful freedom, the American Blacks are still painfully involved in their two conflicting identities-being American as well as being black. This paper is intended to analyze Toni Morrison's novels and argue that, in her novels, Morrison conveyed an idea to her black people: in order to find a compromise between these two conflicting identities, the black people must, first of all, build up their own religious belief, which is the foundation for the creation of the blacks' own culture and history. This American Black Religion should be a combination of both the Black characteristics and the American ones.
