摘　　要：新加坡的华语运动在以民族共同语——华语取代方言方面,取得了巨大成功;但在与社会强势语言——英语的角力中,华语则处于下风,成效明显不足。要想扭转华语的颓势,新加坡的华语运动还任重道远。作者通过对1979—2005年间新加坡"华语运动"的决策背景、"运动"前的密集造势与舆论准备、基本目的、推广对象与历史进程、推广方式以及推广成效等的全面梳理,描述了新加坡华语运动的发展脉络,为客观评价新加坡的华语运动提供了翔实的材料。＂The Movement of Popularizing Chinese＂ in Singapore——to replace the dialect has achieved a great success. However, it has disadvantages while competing with English. It is still a long way to go if we want to change this situation. The essay illustrates the background of the decision-making of ＂The Movement of Popularizing Chinese＂ in Singapore from 1979 to 2005, the intense propaganda and the preparation of public opinion, the basic purpose, the popularizing target and historical process and popularizing effectiveness. It also demonstrates the development of the movement in Singapore, and provides full and accurate proof for the objective evaluation of the movement.
