Objective: To evaluate the value of MRA (magnetic resonance angiography) and dynamic contrast enhanced MRA (DCE MRA) in abdominal veins.Materials and Methods:Among 59 examinations (57 cases) of MRA in abdominal veins performed, there were 51 of 2D TOF (time of flight), 19 of 2D PC (phase contrast), 30 of dynamic contrast enhanced MRA (DCE MRA) (10 of 2D DCE MRA and 20 of 3D DCE MRA). 57 cases were as follows: Portal hypertension (n=18), Budd Chiari sydrome (n=8), portal caval shunt surgery (n=6), primary and secondary liver cancer (n=9), other diseases (n=6) and control group (n=10) in our study. Results:The appearances of MRA in our study were enlarged portal veins and varices; narrowing and occlusion or thrombosis of inferior vena cava; the thrombosis in anastomosis after shunting and portal venous thrombosis in heptocellular carcinoma. The demonstration rates of various degrees of branches of portal veins in 2D TOF, 2D and 3D DCE MRA were compared with one another. The result showed that 3D DCE was the best. The demonstration rates of portal veins branches in two groups of 3D DCE MRA with different slice thickness were also compared, showing that the thin slice was better. Conclusion: MRA is a very valuable and useful technique in abdominal venous system imaging. Among 2D TOF, 2D and 3D DCE MRA, 3D DCE is the best one to obsrve abdominal veins.
