摘　　要：本文从分析“谢谢”和“Thankyou”的异同及跨文化语用失误，探讨了礼貌言语行为语用切当性的问题，指出礼貌并非切当，切当决定于礼貌的相对性，礼貌的相对性又决定于礼貌与语境之间的密切关系，正确的语境认知是实现切当性的关键，跨文化交际过程中，礼貌言语行为就贵在用得切当。This essay explores the appropriateness of polite speech acts, esp. based on the analysis of the difference between "Xiexie" and "Thank you". It maintains that politeness cannot be equated to appropriateness, which mainly depends on relativity of politeness or the interrelation between politeness and context. Correct contextual cognition is the key to the appropriate use of language. Hence, as to polite speech acts, realization of appropriateness in use is crucial in cross-cultural communication.
