摘　　要：在广泛搜集和深入研究西瓜种质资源的基础上，综合采用多种先进育种方法育成两个优良自交系，进一步杂交育成西瓜杂种一代新品种“西农８号”。其经济性状全面超过“金钟冠龙”、“新红宝”等进口主栽品种，在全国各地均表现高产、稳产、座果性好、含糖量高，且梯度小、果肉质细，口感好，品质极优；高抗枯萎病，兼抗炭疽病、耐重茬，可解决连作障害的难题；果皮坚韧，耐贮运，外观及果肉美观，商品性好；露地栽培及大棚栽培效果均佳。该品种适应性极强，已在我国２０余省（市、自治区）大面积推广，经济效益。A most famous leading watermelon cultivar in China for fresh markets and shipping developed by the Northwestern Agricultural University(NWAU),China.Wide adaptability,Medium maturity,development period 95 days.High yield,high quality,high resistante to fusarium wilt,tolerant to anthracnose.Fruit oblong,large size.Rind greenish with clear dark green stripes,hard,touth,medium thick.Flesh bright red,fine texture,high sugar content,sweet flavor.Seed medium small with brown color.The breeder of ‘NWAU No.8’ is patent holder and winner of National Invention priority product as well as many different kinds of Golden Award.
