It is located approximately 12 km to the southeast of the city. Brighton is included in the Bayside Council, and much of it lies on the shores of Port Philip Bay, making it somewhat of a beachfront urban area. Beach Road is a popular cycling route, while off-road cycling tracks are also available at the beach. The Bayside Trail off-road bicycle path goes through the Brighton foreshore, continuing north and south. On this area, several civic structures and recreational facilities are available,
