The function of Rhubarb on preventing and curing the intima hyperplasia of the squeezed total artery in rat carotid was stud- led. The heahhy SD rats were randomly divided into the animal model, aspirin and Rhubarb group ( Rhubarb Ⅰ ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ groups with 0.45,1.35 and 4.05 g/kg resp. ). On 30th d after operation, the histomorphology of total arteries of carotid were investigated. The tissue structures of the blood vessel wall were almost like in the aspirin, and Rhubarb Ⅰand animal model groups. And there was no significantly difference between the occupancy the occupancy rote of area of medium and intima and that of lumen crosscut area ( P 〉 0.05). Gompared with animal model groups, intima hyperplasia of total arteries of carotid in left of rat was decreased obviously in Phubarb Ⅱ and Ⅲ group, the occupancy rate of area of medium and intima in Rhubar Ⅲ group had extremely sinifieantly difference (P 〈0.01) and there was a extremely difference (P 〈0.01) on the occupancy rate of lumen crosscut area between Rhubarb Ⅱ and Ⅲ gin)ups. Tile exlmetions of Rht&arb could prevent and cue the intima hyperplasia of squeezed carotid artery in rat partly
