Objective: To investigate the clinical significance and changes of leptin and adiponectin concentration in type 2 cliabetes patients with macrovascular pathological changes. Methods: 80 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were divided into two groups: one group included 47 patients with macrovascular pathological changes and another group included 33 patients without macrovascular pathological changes. The serum concentration of leptin and adipenectin was detected in the two groups. Results: The leptin concentration was higher statistically in group with macrovascular pathological changes than that in the other one (P〈0.01). However, the adipenectin concentration was lower statistically in group with macrovascular pathological changes than that in the other one (P〈0.01). The serum concentration of leptin and adipenectin had no significant difference among the three subgroups of macrovascular pathological changes. Conclusion: High leptin concentration and low adiponectin concentration are two independent risk factors in type 2 diabetic patients with macrovascular pathological changes, and they play an important role in progressing the mcrovascular pathological changes in type 2 diabetic patients.
