摘　　要：托马斯·哈代的小说,尤其是威塞克斯小说,在很大程度上反映了工业化进程中农村社会经济旧秩序的解体以及人们社会价值观的变迁。《还乡》故事发生的场景爱敦荒原以及荒原上固守传统习惯风俗的居民就是整个人类生存环境的缩影。故事中男女主人公与荒原的关系,不管是克林.姚伯的回归荒原,改造荒原,还是游苔莎的厌倦荒原,摆脱荒原,都反映了哈代那个时代的"现代"青年与环境的剧烈冲突。Thomas Thomas Hardy＇s novels ,especially Wessex＇s novel, to a large extent, showed the rural economic disaggregation of the old system and the change of people＇s social values in the process of industrialization. The Heath where Homecoming happened , together with the residents having been keeping to the traditional cfistoms, is the human environment in miniature as a whole. The hero Clym intended to return to the native and rebuilt it, however, the heroine Eustacia was tired of the wilderness to break away from it. Both of them all reflected the sharp conflict between the ＂modem＂ youth and the environment in Hardy＇s times.
