摘　　要：2007年麦卡菲（R，MeCaffrey）在美国《科学》杂志上的文章指出，目前还远不能成功预测沿苏门答腊一安达曼群岛断层带的下一次特大地震的发生。因为2004年的9，3级（指矩震级）特大地震是发生在让许多地球科学家完全没有预料到的地点。科学家还需要有足够的时间和更多的地震样本去研究这次地震，才能给出答案。The research advances on 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake and geodetic estimates for interpreting formation of two phases of ruptures are introduced.The 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake may be induced by motion of Australian plate which is towards NE33-35deg with a velocity of about 60 mm/year relative to Burma/SE Eurasian plate.The different convergence rates among the Indian,Burma and Australian plates would potentially play key role on the formation of ruptures.
