摘　　要：简约派短篇小说在20世纪80年代的美国文坛异峰突起、独树一帜,但其简约至极的创作风格曾招致一片质疑之声。本文试从简约派产生的社会历史及文化背景入手,系统地梳理这一当代美国文坛新生事物,着重分析其创作特点以及对传统短篇小说的传承和创新,并进一步阐明其所属的新现实主义创作手法,以论证简约并非简单,将丰富的内涵蕴藏在极其简约冷静的表面文字下,是简约派表现当代生活的独特而有效的方式,同时这种创作手法也显示了文学的形式为适合表现当代社会生活而发展演变的过程。Minimalist short stories prospered and came to front in American literary field in the 1980s, but the extreme brevity of their style was once criticized. Starting with the social, historical and cultural background, this paper tries to explore literary min- imalism, analyzing its characteristics, tracing its Literary roots, understanding its uniqueness as a major part of neo-realism, in order to argue that Literary minimalism buries rich meaning under the surface of extremely simple words and sentences, which is a special ard effective way to portray contemporary American life, and which demonstrates the way formal principles evolve to deal with the content of newly emerging life styles.
