摘　　要：以Levelt会话模式为框架,探讨了填充词在话语生成过程中出现的内在原因,及其在话语的产出、理解和协调互动中的语用功能,指出填充词不是可有可无的废话,而是交际顺利进行的一个保证。Adopting Levelt＇s （1989） Speaking Model, based on spontaneous data, the paper exlpores the hidden reasons for fillers to emerge in the speech-generating process as well as the pragmatic functions they serve in producing and understanding speech in mutal interaction. The conclusion is that fillers are in no way meaningless nonsense. They facilitate smooth communication.
