摘 要:弗吉尼亚伍尔夫在与传统写实主义的论战中,提出了要用新的理念来塑造人物形象。《到灯塔去》作为伍尔夫意识流小说的压卷之作,具体而生动地展示了她的小说理论——即生活的真实性存在于人物复杂多变的精神世界,故表现"内在真实"应成为小说家创作的宗旨。为实现其创作理念,伍尔夫在小说中运用了大量的象征意象来暗示人物内在的性格和思想情绪,并成功地使叙述跨越时空。该部小说里大量独特新颖、充满神秘特质的象征意象不仅引起了评论家们和读者的兴趣与关注,也使小说本身充满了多元的意义及争议。Rejecting the constraints of conventional European realism, which seemed to have become too artificial and restrictive for rendering the inner truth, Virginia Woolf attempted to produce novels in her distinctive narrative style, i. e. the style of probing the innermost human psyche. For this, she made extensive use of symbolism, through which she successfully projected the characters' inner life and the change in human personality, and bridged the gaps of time, space and human memory. As her masterpiece, To the Lighthouse is loaded with a variety of symbols drawing much attention from both critics and readers for its multiple perspectives and implications.
