摘　　要：对五四后期轰动一时的北大学生林德扬自杀事件进行了历史性回顾与分析。当时,媒体报道称林德扬热爱国事,遗爱在人,正面宣传了他的爱国事迹,使一个爱国者形象出现在观众视野中;在为他举行的追悼会上,人们阐扬他的为国牺牲精神,意在社会动员,激发人们的爱国精神;当时的学者则通过讨论青年自杀的原因与意义,言说文明走向、社会改造与人生观。林德扬自杀展示了多方面的意义。In the late of May Fourth Movement, Lin Deyang, a student in Peking University, comitted suicide. The media told the public that he was a patriot and publicized his patriotic stories. In order to mobilize the people and excite their patriotic spirit, they chanted his spirit of sacrifice at the funeral. The scholars, by diseussing the causes and meaning of youth＇s suicide, expressed their opinions on the tread of civilization, social reform and outlook on life. By these various interpretations, the meaning of his suicide can be exhibited in many ways.
