Objective To investigate the diagnostic accuracy of fluid attenuated inversion recovery(FLAIR) sequence at low field strength for the cerebral lesions and to compare with that of conventional T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) sequence. Methods A hundred and twenty patients with surgically, pathologically or clinically proved cerebral lesions underwent beth examinations of FLAIR imaging and conventional T2WI. The accurate degrees of above two technic sequences in showing the internal structures and borders of the lesions were compared each other. Results Among 262 cerebral lesions of 120 patients, the detecting rate of FLAIR sequence was 98.5 %(258/ 262),while that of conventional T2WI sequence was 82.4%(216/264).The ratio of FLAIR sequence in good showing the internal structures and borders of the lesions was 66.3%(171/258),while that of conventional T2WI sequence was only 13.4%(29/216).There was a significant difference (P 〈0.01) between the beth techniques. Conclusion During low field strength MR imaging ,the sensitivity of FLAIR sequence in showing the cortical-, subcortical-and periventricular lesions is obviously higher than that of conventional T2WI sequence, and can provide more informations of histopatholopgy.
