Objective To study changes of serum leptin and osteocalcin in children with growth hormone deficiency(GHD) and correlation beteen leptin and osteocalcin. Methods To measure serum leptin and osteocalcin respectively in 32 GHD children (before and after 3 months of recombinant human growth hormone therapy)and 35 sex- and agematched healthy controls. To analyse correlation beteen leptin and osteocalcin. Results Compared with the control, the serum levels of leptin in pre-treatment GHD group were significantly increased (P〈0.05). Compared with the pre-treatment GHD group ,the serum levels of leptin in 3-inonth-treatment GHD group were significantly decreased (P〈0.05). While,Compared with the control, the serum levels of osteocalcin in pre-treatment GHD group were significantly decreased (P〈0.05). Compared with the pre-treatment GHD group, the serum levels of osteocalcin in 3-month-treatment GHD group were significantly increased(P〈0.05). There was no significant con'elation between leptin and osteocaicin(r = 0.281,P〉0.05). Conclusion Changes of serum leptin in GHD children was depended on the change of body fat mass which was brought by GH. The adjustment and control of bone metabolism in GHD children might have no relationship with leptin.
