摘　　要：《荒原》是特·斯·艾略特的一部具有历史意义的传世佳作。许多人认为《荒原》是一部博学难读的长诗,其原因之一是作者通篇用典,大量运用神话人物及复杂的意象来结构篇章。本文运用神话原型批评方法对《荒原》中出现的神话人物和意象进行分析,揭示西方社会的文明衰落、信仰危机和道德沦丧。The Waste Land is an outstanding historic work of T. S. Eliot. Many people think The Waste Land is a poem which is hard to understand. One of the reasons is that Eliot uses a lot of literary quotation in this poem, such as mythic characters and complicated symbols. This paper uses myth and archetypal criticism to analyze mythic characters and symbols appeared in The Waste Land and open out declination of western civilization, crisis of belief and loss of morality.
