摘　　要：On August 13, 2008 while still in Oslo, Norway, the newly elected Executive Committee members of the International Union held their first annual business meeting. The 59th EC meeting was intentionally brief and allowed the new officers to properly intro- duce themselves to their colleagues, detail their own expertise in the geosciences and share with others their personal goals and aspirations to serve the Union.
