Some Ideas on the Date of the Duke Jue Gui Food Container

摘　　要：朱风瀚先生新近撰文介绍并作了详细讨论的觉公簋，由于其铭文关涉到晋国的早期历史，从而又影响到西周王年，故引起了学者的重视。之后，“夏商周断代工程”办公室的《简报》又登载了李学勤先生的《论觉公簋年代及有关问题》及“夏商周断代工程”办公室组织专家对该器进行讨论的纪要，各位专家围绕该器年代作了多方面的讨论，提出了许多很好的意见。The inscription on the recently discovered Duke Jue gui food container concerns the early history of the Jin State and effects on the chronology of the Western Zhou kings＇ reigns, so the vessel has drawn attention from academic circles. The present paper makes comparative studies first by examining the shape and decoration of bronzes at three levels and then by comparing level by level the form and decoration of the Duke Jue gui with those of chronologically close bronzes. The results suggest that the present vessel may have belonged to the King Chengwang＇s reign. Taking literal records into account, the author discusses further the date of the gui and comes to the conclusion that the related textual records are not contradictory with the notion that the 28th year mentioned in the inscription of the vessel should be taken to be in Chengwang＇s reign.
