Objective To investigate the prevalence of HIV/HCV co infections in formal plasma donors (FPD), and evaluate the effects of HIV/HCV co-infections in HIV infected individuals and the effects of HAART. Methods FPD and those close to them were under a retrospective cohort study, tested for anti-HIV and anti-HCV. Significance was determined by χ^2 test using SPSS 13.0. Results The incidence rate in HIV/HCV co infection was significantly higher than HCV seronegativity individuals ( P 〈 0.001 ), and the fatality rate was a significant difference ( P 〈 0.001 ) between individuals with HAART and those without. The fatality rate in HIV/HCV co-infection was not significantly higher than HCV seronegativity individuals ( P 〉 0.05 ). Couclusions HCV could be an important factor in the morbidity and mortality among HIV infected individuals. But the probability of progression to death is not associated with HCV seropositivity. More attention should be paid to HIV/HCV co-infection individuals. The beneficial effects of HAART are confirmed. Effective interference has very important significance in HIV-infected patients. HAART should be carried out actively in HIV infected patients.
