摘　　要：大学作为一个绵延数千年的组织机构,在其历史变迁过程中,具有鲜明的文化特征和民族性格。中西方大学发展的历史对此作了充分的注解,并昭示着现代大学发展的基本走向。多样性、国际化、实践性、独立性是现代大学所应具有的特征,而学术自由则构成了现代大学的真谛,是现代大学得以存身立命的根本。As an organization of thousands of years, university has distinct cultural characters and national character during its historical change, which is annotated by university development in the West and China prefiguring the basic trend of modern university. Modern university is characteristic of diversity, internationalization, practicality and independence, and academic freedom is regarded as the essence and the survival root of modern university.
