China and the United States can Avoid a Strategic Showdown

摘　　要：中美建交30年来，两国关系发生了深刻的变化，取得了建交初期无法想象的发展，中美间的根本性分歧开始明朗化，出现了难以解决的复杂问题。但国际体系的现状和全球化的发展趋势以及中美两国的根本战略利益和基本对外政策决定了中美关系保持长期稳定是有可能的，两国可以避免战略摊牌。In the 30-odd years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the U.S., bilateral ties of the two countries have seen deep-going changes and achieved progresses which were beyond most people’s imagination at the beginning of the normalization. Fundamental differences between China and U.S. have become more obvious and some hard-to-solve and complicated issues come out. However, the present international system, trends of globalization as well as the basic strategic interests and foreign policies of both countries will make it possible for them to keep their relations stable for a long time to come. A strategic showdown between them can be avoided.
